Police Union Declares No Confidence In Winslow; Mayor Stands By Chief

Springfield police officers are expressing a lack of confidence in Chief Kenny Winslow.

The police union took the no-confidence vote last week after what it says was a series of issues that have contributed to low morale in the department. Nearly 90-percent of those voting expressed no confidence in Winslow, citing issues ranging from timely decision-making to concerns about schedules and overtime.

In a statement, Mayor Jim Langfelder said he is standing by Winslow… and says the union’s gripe stems from Winslow’s efforts to implement “21st Century Policing,” which requires officers to put in extra time interacting with the community.
