Due to some unusual holidays, you’ll have a few extra days to file your taxes this year.
Emancipation Day is observed on April 15 in the District of Columbia & celebrates the day when President Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act in 1862, which freed more than 3,00 slaves in the DOC. So, you can give thanks to Washington D.C. for at least one thing this year.
Federal taxes are due by Monday, April 18.
Residents in Massachusetts & Maine have until the April 19 to file because of Patriots’ Day. But don’t we don’t live in those two states, so it’s April 18 for us!
