Some Central Illinois farmers are coming to the aid of their counterparts in Kansas, who lost so much during the wildfires earlier this year.
Vermilion County farmers are planning to leave Friday morning with loads of donated extra hay.
A Fairmount, Il farmer stepped up to organize the collection drive. Vern Rohrscheib after learning that more than 650,000 acres in 21 counties in Kansas have been burned by fire in the last month. Farmers lost their supply of hay. Many farmers also lost the majority of the livestrock in the fires.
The hay will be transported to Kansas farmers and ranchers via truck-tractor on March 30. Donations of hay for this trip are being accepted through March 29.
