An upset stomach is something that strikes us all from time to time, but did you know that a compound found in chili peppers and marijuana can help alleviate it.
According to a new study from the University of Connecticut, researchers found that the chemical that gives the pepper its heat, capsaicin, when bonded to the receptors in your gut produce another chemical, anandamide. Anandamide is similar to cannabinoids in marijuana, which is what gets a user stoned and results in a reduction in inflammation of the stomach, esophagus, and pancreas.
The study will continue to investigate the correlation of edible marijuana to calming the effects of colitis and other gastrointestinal ailments.
