Another PR disaster for United Airlines…a rabbit that was in line to become the World’s Largest Rabbitt has died in their care. The giant rabbit, named Simon, died under unexplained circumstances on a United Airlines flight from London to Chicago, a British media reported Wednesday.
The 3-foot, 10-month-old Continental Giant rabbit was being flown to his new home with an unnamed celebrity, but was found dead in the cargo hold of the Boeing 767 after it landed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Simon had a vet’s check-up three hours before the flight and was “fit as a fiddle” according to his breeder. The breeder also said the client who bought Simon is very famous and “he’s upset.”
In a statement, United said: “We were saddened to hear this news. The safety and wellbeing of all the animals that travel with us is of the utmost importance to United Airlines and our PetSafe team. We have been in contact with our customer and have offered assistance. We are reviewing this matter.”
