The name of Eric’s newest album is Desperate Man. I’m sure you’ve already heard the title track on the radio.
#1, The Snake is a very slow song and Eric does a lot of talking… not much singing. It’s very weird and creepy.
#2, Hangin Around has the feel and sound of an old rocker song. You could literally play the air drums to this one.
#3, Heart Like a Wheel is a sing-along song with a mid-tempo.
#4, Some Of It is the first song on this album that sounds like a country song. The lyrics are relatable and it’s a good country song.
#5, Monsters refers to the monsters under your bed, as a kid. Then, as you get older, monsters are the restless feelings we all encounter. This song has a little more tempo.
#6, Hippie Radio is a story song. This song talks about phases of life. It starts out with the lyrics saying as a kid… then switches to the time in your life when you start having kids.
#7, High Wire is a song that sounds like it was recorded when Eric was strung out. That’s just my own personal opinion.
#8, The title track; Desperate Man has had a lot of airplay! I like it.
#9, Solid, I think this is Eric‘s version of a love song. He talks a lot about solid relationship. It has a slow and smooth tone.
#10, Jukebox and a Bar is a slow and sad kind of song. There’s a real lonely feeling in the lyrics.
#11, Drowning Man is a good way to end the album. This song is about a man in a bar drowning out his life and sorrows with whiskey.
After doing a little research on Eric Church and this album, I learned that Eric was a little more than disturbed by the Las Vegas shooting a year ago and that he had a hard time concentrating on making the album.
I believe that contributed to the uncanniest of the record. If you love Eric Church… you will like it. If you’re on the fence like me, you’re gonna think it’s a little bizarre.
